Fight night!
Roll For Initiative
No time for secrets, guys! Kobolds have breached the crest of the hill with hot killing set in thier eyes. Roll for initiative! And let slip the goblins of war!
Vigorous
Tres Brujas
And so our brave companions depart upon a quest to entreat (with swords) the Kobold clans threatening the good people of Winterhaven. But, hark, they no not of the sinister machinations that whirl below the surface.
And, WTF, witches now!? C'mon!
Ess Load
So, I quoted Spaceballs. I couldn't help myself. But, did you check out Attar's new duds? A knight of Bahamut must be fully prepared to face chaos' minions. On with the adventure!
Already Ready Already
PHWUT! That is the sound effect in panel 3. And also the sound of a new helmet being placed on the head of a warrior hero.
From Wakefulness
Ahh, zounds! Awake and confront adventure! For on this day are heroes made!
The brave companions, with Thair's map in hand and rested are ready to face all manner of devilry. On the forefront, a band of kobold warriors. On the horizon... a tower of evil!
Another Round
Cut to Wrafton Inn that same night. Attar and Henklestout converse with the town blacksmith, Thair Coalstriker, about the rumors ahead of their quest. A grevious road awaits, indeed...
Author's Note: you've probably noticed that this comic is not colored. I've decided that to meet my deadline for this comic strip and deliver as much content as I can, I had to cut out the most time consuming aspect. I to hope deliver more story and character development this way on a regular basis. So stick around for even more Drawing Lance!
Meritocracy
Irontooth receives a coded message from Kalarel; an agent of evil who thinks the town of Winterhaven will make a nice... buffet.
Dealing With The Devil
Ninaran pays a visit to Irontooth, a stout Goblin and commander of the Kobold clans. The pieces of her scheme are falling in to place as it is revealed she is leading the brave companions into a trap; the maw of the clans themselves! And for his work well done, Irontooth is granted audience and entrance to the Shadow Keep. The misshapen tower of chaos on the edge of the lands of Winterhaven.
Let Slip The Kobolds Of War
So while the adventuring trio of Ebelnard, Attar and Henklestout son of Thugwart are dealing with the grim portents of the wandering elf, Ninaran, a looming threat only whispered on the lips of the villagers of Winterhaven is stirring for a fight. A rowdy band of Kobolds lead by a menacing Goblin named Irontooth are itching for a fight! But who is their "Dark Master" and why is he so interested in the destruction of such an obscure hamlet...
Just Like That
And Just like that, Ninaran hath spoken and vanished. On the road back to the Inn of Winterhaven, better known as Wrafton's, the boys will have much to discuss. The existence of dragon's that might guide their quest. The promise of gold that might fill their pockets. And the looming threat of the Keep on the Shadowfell...
At this point in our game we were quite interested in confronting and questioning all manner of characters in the game to get a better foot hold on the quest. For the sake of plot and pace I combined some interactions and rigged the story arc. I hope you enjoy! The next installment features our villains!
Shock & Caw
The boys have been caught by surprise by the wily Ninaran, but she staves off her sword in support of aiding the travelers. She doesn't trust the sorcerer Valthruun, but do Ebelnard, Attar and Hinklestout trust her? So many shadows stirring. So many blades quivering.
P.S. Kinda proud of my title here. The "caw" refers to Henkletstout as he is a devoted follower of the Raven Queen. Get it?

Strength Vs Charisma
Better late than never! The upcoming strips are featuring some brand new characters so I've spent some time working over their character designs and color themes. This week I'm introducing Ninaran! A devilish, elven woman with motives all her own! Can the boys stand true against the many wiles pitted before them, or will they fall prey to opposing sides. Don't forget, they've just been with the wizard Valthruun, sage of the village Winterhaven, who's prompted them to seek the council of dragons before venturing to the magical tower on the horizon.
Ninaran, Valthruun and any other D&D featured things are copywrite WoTC.

P.S. did you catch the Conan the Barbarian quote?
Unsettling Scenario
Recently, a new reader asked me what most of this means. As he's not familiar with the world of Dungeons & Dragons. I suppose I've been remiss in my duty to clarify the adventure as it unfolds. Remember readers, this is the ongoing story of my foray into 4th Edition D&D. Based on the Keep on the Shadowfell module.
At this juncture my crew and I have been propositioned by Lord Paidraig to deal with a "minor kobold threat." Since we are young, plucky adventurers we jumped at any chance to gain fame and glory. But a visit to the village magi, Valthruun complicated matters. What exactly were we getting ourselves in to!
